What the B!*g?

“What’s the title about?” you ask. Well, good question; why do people bother blogging? Why do readers bother to read blogs? I have no idea. Yes, it is good to have places to express yourself & everyone is entitled to their opinion. But since anyone (& I mean anyone) can write a blog & say whatever they like on the internet, there is no place for serious/decent bloggers (such as myself!) out there. I don’t like to be told what to think, & that is what blogs are trying to do. Not in the obvious “Agree with me or I’ll kill you” way, but in the “This is my opinion, isn’t it a good one” way. I have my own opinions on everything & don’t need some yobbo (http://twentymajor.net/) giving me more. Although I do have to admit I find Twenty Major (http://twentymajor.net/) pretty funny, but would never actually make a point of going out of my way to read it. Blogs do not seem to be journalists since all they really do is offer opinion.
Meanwhie, a blog such as that of David McWilliams (http://www.davidmcwilliams.ie/) seems to be more of a “Look what I’ve accomplished!” catalogue for McWilliams than anything else…right down to the little ‘David McWilliams’ icon that shows up beside the web address. It is true that McWillims has some good opinions (but we already know what I think about those!) but the only worthwhile part of the blog/website is the ‘Articles’ section; everything else is information on where to buy DVDs, how to book McWilliams for an event, etc.
Would I be looking at these blogs if Iwasn’t doing ‘Online Journalism’? No.

That is interesting! Different kinds of people want different kinds of blogs.
